Brand positioning & social strategy for a multi-faceted production company
The Cosmic Shambles Network is a renowned independent platform for curious minds, blending science, comedy, literature, and art. Founded by Robin Ince and Trent Burton in 2016 (with roots going back over a decade earlier), the network has featured voices including Professor Brian Cox, Helen Czerski, Josie Long, and Chris Hadfield. As it evolved, Shambles needed a clearer, cohesive digital identity to match its growing reputation and expanding content library.
Despite a devoted following and a strong reputation within science and entertainment circles, The Cosmic Shambles Network lacked a unified digital presence. With multiple shows, events, podcasts, and a vibrant community of contributors, it was time to articulate a brand strategy that reflected its core ethos: curiosity without pretension, science with humour, and creativity without limits.
We collaborated with the Shambles team to:
Define and refine the brand voice - ensuring that all communications reflected their unique tone: accessible, irreverent, intelligent and inclusive.
Audit digital platforms – identifying inconsistencies in messaging, structure, and user experience across their website, Patreon, Substack, store, and social media.
Develop an audience-focused strategy - building on the brand’s existing community with content that welcomed new audiences into the fold while deepening engagement with longtime fans.
Consult on accessibility and inclusion - integrating best practices across visual, written, and technical touchpoints.
Align creative assets – advising on visuals and written content to ensure cohesion across live events, merchandise, and online output.
What made this project successful was recognising that The Cosmic Shambles Network thrives on being “shambolic” - in the best possible way. Rather than stripping that back in favour of corporate polish, we leaned into their authentic, curious, and joyfully chaotic identity, turning it into a digital strength. By combining strategic thinking with playful creativity, we helped the Shambles team amplify what made them distinctive from the start, building a brand presence that feels as inviting, intelligent and irreverent as their work.
