What Are Puberty Blockers And Why Do We Need To Fight The Decision To ban Them

A collaborative zine by Wednesday Holmes and Ellen jones

Our Founder Ellen Jones collaborated with artist and activist Wednesday Holmes on a powerful visual explainer zine responding to the growing political hostility toward trans youth in the UK and beyond.

The zine aimed to clearly communicate what puberty blockers are, why they are vital for trans+ young people, and why attempts to ban them are both medically unsound and ethically indefensible.

Ellen, an LGBTQ+ author in her own right, led the writing, messaging, and research - translating complex medical policy, international best practice, and the lived realities of trans youth into accessible, compassionate language.

The result was a bold, visually striking piece that paired Wednesday’s vibrant illustrations with my clear, evidence-based narrative. Designed to be both educational and mobilising, the zine included calls to action that encouraged people to support trans-led initiatives, contact their MPs, and amplify trans voices.

Within a week of publication, it had reached millions of people globally, becoming a widely shared resource across social media, classrooms, protests, and community spaces. This collaboration is a testament to how values-led creative work can cut through noise, fight misinformation, and protect the lives of those most at risk.
