NCS: Social

Media For Good

As part of the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme, Ellen Jones designed and delivered a series of interactive workshops in schools across London. These sessions aimed to equip young people with the tools to navigate social media critically and creatively, with a particular focus on how digital platforms can be used to drive positive change.

Drawing from her experience as a digital strategist and LGBTQ+ activist, Ellen guided participants through real-world examples of online advocacy, storytelling, and community building. The workshops explored the power of social media to amplify marginalised voices, challenge misinformation, and mobilise support around social justice issues.

Feedback from students and educators highlighted the sessions as engaging, informative, and empowering - providing a fresh perspective on digital engagement beyond the usual warnings about online risks.

This project not only developed students’ critical media literacy but also encouraged them to see themselves as capable changemakers in their own right.
